As one of the most modern development centers in the automotive industry worldwide, FIZ serves as the central interface for all technical as well as design research and development activities. Manufacturing, logistics and production processes, engines and alternative drive systems, innovative materials and mobility concepts - these are just a fraction of the areas covered by FIZ for the three brands BMW, MINI Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad as well as their sub-brands BMW M and BMW i.
The existing development center with its honeycomb-like layout will be expanded step by step. The first construction phase, which was occupied in 2020, is a hybrid large-scale structure that defines various functional areas and links them through spatial proximity and open, flexible and clearly structured spaces. At the center of the new project house, a cross-story communication space was created, with staggered, wide-openings connecting the levels visually and via seating staircases. The associated atrium on the 1st floor mediates between offices and workshops. On the upper levels, the "New Working Worlds" concept is implemented with a mixture of different forms of use and communication.
In order to implement open room concepts like here in the "new working world", architects and planners need fire protection solutions that can be used flexibly and can be discreetly integrated into the building structure. With its textile systems, STÖBICH offers a perfect solution to ensure the necessary fire protection while meeting the aesthetic requirements. The smoke and fire protection curtains are installed quasi invisibly in the false ceiling.
