In its expanded and updated third edition, the "Lexikon der deutschen Familienunternehmen" (Encyclopaedia of German Family Businesses) presents more than 1,000 German family businesses, tells their story and adds interesting details and anecdotes. Family businesses are the backbone of the German economy. More than 60% of German employees work for them, they generate 50% of German sales, hold 75% of patents and provide 80% of apprenticeships. They are seen as a guarantor of economic success and carry the values of a social and people-friendly market economy.
