      Fire protection curtains

      In case of fire, fire protection curtains close wall and ceiling openings. Their construction (roll-down or folding technique) and the use of different fabrics provide for a wide range of applications as well as different protection goals, classifications and time classes. The casing and guide rails of the highly flexible systems blend almost invisibly into the building and allow plenty of scope for sophisticated architecture and open room concepts.

      Various production and logistics processes call for the most diverse types of conveyor systems. If these conveyor lines pass through fire-retardant or fire-resistant walls or ceilings, the openings required for this purpose must be provided with fire protection closures to prevent the spread of fire through the conveyor system or the goods conveyed. In the event of fire, conveyor system closures (CSC for short) must close these openings immediately and automatically. Fire resistance classified according to DIN EN 13501-2 is just as important as the smooth clearance of the closing areas in the event of a fire.

      A smoke apron is a part of a smoke control system which also includes other components such as natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilators (EN 12101-2) and mechanical smoke and heat exhaust ventilators (EN 12101-3). Smoke aprons restrict the movement of combustion gases within a building in case of fire.

      Once closed, smoke protection curtains (SPC) restrict the passage of smoke during the phase of fire formation, so that in the event of a fire, there is enough time to rescue people and animals from the room behind the curtain and to recover material assets without the need for respiratory equipment.

Stöbich offers fire protection for pneumatic conveyor lines the closing elements of which are not exposed to the flow of conveyed material. This way, the closing element cannot be damaged or contaminated by abrasive conveyed goods.

      Control units

      Each automatic fire protection system needs a control unit. They are critical to safety, because a failure of this function means that the entire investment into a fire protection sealing has been in vain. Control units coordinate both fire detection and interaction with other control units, such as higher-level building control systems or clearing of the closing area of conveyor system closures.

Next Generation Maintenance via Drone

Our service partner PROTEC-24 has recently started using camera drones to inspect fire protection systems that are difficult to access. A forward-looking model for success with which the service provider, which operates throughout Germany, is a pioneer in the market.

In the almost 30-year history of the company, PROTEC-24, as a subsidiary of the STÖBICH Group, has established itself as a leading service provider in the field of technical building equipment. Consulting, testing and maintenance, servicing and installation of new systems such as the complex STÖBICH fire protection systems is the forced core business. And it is precisely here that our maintenance partner offers an innovative service with added value - as one of the first companies in its sector.

Slowly, the camera drone lifts off the ground and soars confidently towards the ceiling. In this reference object, textile fire protection systems with highly complex control elements are installed at a height of a good 30 metres. Since the floor is not designed for massive tools such as lifting platforms, a light solution was needed: thus the idea of "maintenance via drone" was born. The clear advantage here is that the unmanned flying object can be conveniently controlled from the ground and is ideally suited for the initial inspection of fire and smoke protection systems that are difficult to access.

The drone completed its maiden flight at the beginning of May 2022 at the Sparkasse Bad Hersfeld for an inventory and condition survey of the Supercoil smoke curtain; since then, it has been used more and more often.

Advantages of maintenance via drone:

- Versatile use, e.g. on systems that are difficult to access where the use of lifting platforms or scaffolding is not possible
- Time-saving due to immediate applicability and fast data evaluation
- Efficient due to latest technology and digital documentation

(Note: due to the use of drones, maintenance according to manufacturer specifications cannot be carried out at all inspection points)
