      Fire protection curtains

      In case of fire, fire protection curtains close wall and ceiling openings. Their construction (roll-down or folding technique) and the use of different fabrics provide for a wide range of applications as well as different protection goals, classifications and time classes. The casing and guide rails of the highly flexible systems blend almost invisibly into the building and allow plenty of scope for sophisticated architecture and open room concepts.

      Various production and logistics processes call for the most diverse types of conveyor systems. If these conveyor lines pass through fire-retardant or fire-resistant walls or ceilings, the openings required for this purpose must be provided with fire protection closures to prevent the spread of fire through the conveyor system or the goods conveyed. In the event of fire, conveyor system closures (CSC for short) must close these openings immediately and automatically. Fire resistance classified according to DIN EN 13501-2 is just as important as the smooth clearance of the closing areas in the event of a fire.

      A smoke apron is a part of a smoke control system which also includes other components such as natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilators (EN 12101-2) and mechanical smoke and heat exhaust ventilators (EN 12101-3). Smoke aprons restrict the movement of combustion gases within a building in case of fire.

Control units coordinate both fire detection and interaction with other control units, such as higher-level building control systems or clearing of the closing area of conveyor system closures.

E-bikes & fire protection: How safe are the batteries?

E-bikes and pedelecs are gaining momentum, both for leisure and as company bikes. But what about the safety of their "heart", the lithium-ion battery? How dangerous are energy storage devices and what fire protection solutions are there?

Lithium-ion batteries have established themselves as energy storage devices in electromobility: they score with a high energy density at relatively low weight, a short charging time and a long service life. In principle, they are safe, but under certain circumstances, the batteries can have an accident, i.e. explode. This leads to violent reactions in the form of fires that emit dangerous toxic and corrosive gases. The cause of such a fire is often incorrect charging, e.g. deep discharge or overcharging.
Larger companies, DIY shops and bicycle shops are therefore increasingly relying on targeted fire protection by keeping the batteries safely under lock and key. STÖBICH has long been developing ➥ such transport and storage solutions for lithium-ion batteries of various sizes. The boxes in the StrainBox series such as the ➥ StrainBox XS for e-bike batteries etc. have an integrated filter system that filters out toxic gases to a large extent. Harmful dusts and particles are retained and the escape of solids, liquids and flames is prevented. Thanks to the integrated thermal management, the outer walls hardly heat up and the defective battery can be transported away in compliance with ADR, i.e. in accordance with the Convention on the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road.
